Saw this! Very cool!

If only he had located Walter first!

Thanks for the SHARE... never saw this before ;)

It depends if we take this as a Easter Egg... or Consider it Canon!

It of-course has Flaws..... but thats if we Nitpick (which i can do lol).  One Example WHY it took a While for the Egg to become Active.... as in the Face Hugger had NOT yet Finished Gestating... we have to then have to Wonder how they Gestate as David obtained TWO Smaller Ones that are surely NOT ready.

It appears the Suit had a Build in AI with the Recording Devices, at First i wondered if the Investigative Person was a Synthetic, but the End reveals thats not the Case.

Another Flaw is the Uniform is from the Covenant.

Its likely a Oversight.... as they just Re-used Props, but they should have Replaced the Badge.... now this could make us Speculate this is a Member of the Covenant, but HOW/WHY and WHEN?

Then WHY are these Given Designations Fifield and Deacon?  What knowledge did they have about Prometheus?

All in all we should not read too much into it, or consider it to be Literal Cannon, it is likely a Easter Egg for us for Alien Day.

Its Pretty Cool though ;)

When we consider the Advent Video sent by David, and IF that is Canon, then Eventually you would Suspect the Company would send a Ship to where David sent the Video from, which could likely take them to Planet 4, and they would also likely go to LV-223 too.

You would assume they would SEND more than ONE Person, and also SEND a Synthetic Instead... they would Determine the Events of Prometheus had led to what David had sent them... so they would maybe look into the Prometheus Mission and WHY it went to LV-223 which would mean looking at Dr Shaw and Holloways Proposals and Findings... which could lead to the Company having send a Synthetic that would be given the SAME amount of Training/Teachings that David would have had during his Journey that enabled him to Speak to the Engineers etc.

so WHILE we cant consider this Video as 100% Canon to be... it is Possible that a Mission like it would be carried out in Future..

If this Mission has a Synthetic that had done the same Research as David had in Preparation for LV-223, then should any Engineers Return while a Weyland-Yutani Mission is Snooping around on Planet 4, then they could be in TROUBLE!

This Synthetic would then likely be able to Inform the Engineers what happened and WHO the Culprit was and where they (David) is going.

EDIT:

Just checked it was Released on the 15th August as a Celebration of the TWO Year Anniversary of Alien Covenant's DVD Release.

TWO Years already... thats Flown By!

Yes, it was just a fun celebration and very cool of them to do. It seemed like a way to show off the lab (I paused several times to look at stuff) with a basic and loose plot to keep us watching. I may have missed it but I didn't see carved out chest Shaw...

Disney- pay attention to this.

I don't understand why release this after 2 years, but it might be because of the problems which Fox has under the new management https://variety.com/2019/film/features/fox-disney-earnings-dark-phoenix-stuber-racing-in-the-rain-1203300260/

@MonsterZero I'm pretty sure there is no Walter anymore as David took his body.

@BigDave of course it is not cannon as it was released to generate hype. Other flaws are the fact the room misses Shaw's body and the flailed Engineer in the David pose. Maybe they got Resurrected, who knows.

But there are other questions: Why send a single person to investigate? How does the AI know without any analysis that is a pathogen? Why does every Alien story has to have an idiot taking a look inside an egg?

ignorantGuy After some initial high hopes, I don't think anyone honestly thought Disney would continue the franchise. I tend to believe what the description says- they had some fun before storing away the props for good. Maybe some aspiring movie makers were given a chance to help make this?

dk I don't know what the point of this video was, but regarding the Alien franchise. They will probably make something with in the next 10 years, probably after the comic book movie craze will fizzle out. For now, Avatar, Planet of the Apes, and even Alita seem better bets as they can be marketed to a wider audience.

The only one who could really push for a Covenant sequel is Ridley himself but who knows if he really cares anymore or if he has that much sway at Disney. And if he unfortunately dies (RIP Peter Fonda, who was younger than Ridley), there will be no sequel.

A nice bit of fun. But, dear oh dear, not the best direction in the world, is it. And the computer dialog script is just plain annoying. They should run that kind of stuff by proper scientists or engineers first. They wouldn’t use words like that, and neither would a computer.

Even more irritating than the movie computer saying Planet 4 had a ‘declension’ of such-and-such.

"@MonsterZero I'm pretty sure there is no Walter anymore as David took his body."

I'm okay with this....David would want the upgraded features of Walter's body.

I hope Fox/Disney let hundreds of student filmmakers prowl the old sets making these videos. Like a baseball farm league...Alien Filmmakers League.

AFL unite!

I think it was neat for a Easter Egg, i think it would have been Interesting to see such a Event Happen in Future, as a Result of Davids Advent Message would surely attract the Company to Check out Planet 4 and LV-223

IF we had got the Sequel that was Planned i am not sure we would have actually spent much or any time in Davids Lab, due to the Costs of Replicating that Set for a Limited Few Shots.

This Easter Egg Video does give some indication of what happened on Planet 4 though, even though its NOT Canon, the things it referenced are likely Accurate to a Degree in Terms of what David had done.

I think Regarding Walter i think regardless of what Happened between him and David, there would be the other Synthetics Body on Planet 4 in the Cathedral Dome, looking at the PLOT that Ridley Scott had hinted at, about the Engineers would Return and Discover what Happened and then would be Wanting to get their Hands on the Culprit.

I Find there is NO-WAY the Engineers could know where David is going, especially if he is going to Origae-6 and so the Walter/David would likely be the Plot Convenience to indicate to the Returning Engineers, where David is going and what went down.

Other than that then indeed having a Weyland-Yutani Mission with a Synthetic who had learned the same Ancient Languages that David had, and have them be on Planet 4 and then Engineers arrive would be the other Plot Convenience.

Regarding the Franchise...

Disney know the Alien and Predator Franchises offer a Good Market, they do-not Solely rely on Movies and so from Toys and Merchandise they can make Money, they can License out Countless Games and Comics, and Novels.

The Movie Industry is a different matter, its a Bigger Risk, and they would know HOW split the Fanbase is especially with the Prequels and the Direction that has been taken with Alien Covenant (David as the Creator).

The Predator and Alien Franchises last outings at the Box Office were Disappointments.... Disney do-not take chances they would be Reluctant to Invest in a Movie unless they are Confident it will make a Good Return.

Disney are a Company who will Operate like the Comic Book Movie Franchises would... and so would Abandon a Idea that NEVER worked... and also would have NO Problems in Waiting a While and then RE-BOOTING or Introducing a NEW movie set in the Universe/Franchise for another Generation of Fans!

So a Continuation of Davids Journey does look Unlikely at Present...   A exploration of the Engineers that revolved around the Creators/Ancient God aspect could be Unlikely too.

Its more likely we would see the Engineers Return maybe they have a Make Over and be Portrayed as NOT too different to the Predators on Screen...  Big Bad Ass Aggressive SOB's with Superior Technology kicking Human Ass and also being involved with Xenomorphs!

What i am saying is i Suspect IF/WHEN it is Disney will make another ALIEN Franchise Movie it would more likely be like the Comic Books, maybe some of the Novels.

I also think they would Gauge that Most Fans would want a Ripley Based Story, be it Ellen Ripley or Amanda.

The Vision and Ambition of RS and his Prometheus, and its Themes, are something that i feel is R.I.P

Well, well, well. This is the first encounter of the company with the xenomorph.

This is also the first time that we see the... awakening of a dorment facehugger, from the inside of an egg.

Now, the company knows the existence of humanoids aka engineers, neomorphs, eggs, facehuggers and xenomorphs.

A speculation:

the company finds Walter, retrieves from him information and sends the marines on a mission headed to oriagae 6.  Their primary directive is to rescue the 2000 colonists from David? I don't think so. The hunt for a perfect organism begins in 2021.

MonsterZero

Aug-18-2019 6:37 AM

'Their primary directive is to rescue the 2000 colonists from David? '

Yeah, that'd be cool! Catching up to David only to find 2000 mutated Fifields zombies and end up attempting to rescue themselves! (too much like Aliens though..)

Or the company catches up to David, kills him and THEN uses the 2000 colonist for their own experiments (Twisty...too much like Alien:Covenant..hmm)

Marines catch David ....then the Engineers show up and catch everyone? Caught in the crossfire and bloodbath for all involved?

Engineers catch up to David...then the Marines show up?

"I Find there is NO-WAY the Engineers could know where Davidis going, especially if he is going to Origae-6 and so the Walter/David would likely be the Plot Convenience to indicate to the Returning Engineers, where David is going and what went down."

I don't think Hollywood/RS would worry about this.

They would just show a orrery scene with the Engineers locating a small spacecraft..zoom in on it...show some fancy icons, dotted xyz lines, calculating it's current vector/speed...figure out where it came from and where it's going.

Must be hundred of Sci-fi tropes for locating objects in space?(Ion signature/warp signature/heat signature/bending of spacetime signature/mass signature/velocity signature/RF signature/etc.....)

setaverde

Aug-18-2019 3:59 PM

That's easy. The engineers have the technology to detect spaceships on a wide range. If Hollywood wants, they don' t even need to go to lv-223 :). They go straight to origae-6, without knowing that their home planet's brothers were eraised.

MonsterZero

Aug-18-2019 5:47 PM

I'd Have the Engineers chase ship come out of warp right next to the Covenant...With Walter lashed to the outside!(crucifix style maybe?)

Aug-18-2019 8:45 PM

Or they could do a prologue in the movie after a bunch of viral videos explaining it so it doesn't take up any cinema time. If you don't see the viral videos, tough luck for you.

Nice little movie.

I wonder how the egg ended up in the lab since the eggs were in the basement? Did Walter place it there?

Interesting that "Country Roads" suddenly is heard from some kind of sound device.

There is also something moving in front of the camera. What could that be? A xenomorph? Walter?

BigDave

@setaverde

The Video looks like nothing more than a Easter Egg, a Bit of Fun and a Gift to Celebrate the 2nd Anniversary of Alien Covenants DVD Release.

But it is still quite Neat all the same, and it does indicate maybe what could happen in the Future, it would have been Interesting to see what happens IF/WHEN the Company send a Mission  to Investigate Planet 4.  This Video does give us a Closer Look at the Work Shop which was Cool.....

I think if we EVER did get a Mission to Planet 4 then as far as On Screen we may NOT get as much detail on David's Work-shop due to the Cost of Having to Re-Build the Set and Re-Create (or obtain) all the Props and Art-Work..... especially of a Scene that would only play a Small Part of any Future Movie.

None the Less, while we may-not be shown in Detail i think in Future that YES, the Company would send a Mission to Planet 4, in Response to the Advent Message that David had sent the Company, if we assume they still intend this Message to be Canon.

The Message was SENT while David was in the Vicinity of near Zeta 2 Reticuli it indicated what David had done and so the Company would likely go to LV-223 but they would also maybe check out the Location near where we SENT the Message which we can assume is NOT FAR from Planet 4 and so they could indeed end up sending a Mission to Planet 4.

I would assume any such Mission would be more than a ONE-MAN team and its likely would include Synthetics.

They would Likely Come Across Walter....

"I don't think Hollywood/RS would worry about this."

Well we could also get NO explanation for HOW the Engineers Determine where David is going. Because indeed sometimes they wont put any Effort in to give Logical Explanations or Reasons.

So yeah maybe they could Detect the Ship.. but HERE is the Problem with this..... IF we assume the Covenant is heading towards Origae-6 we are informed it will take 7 Years and 4 Months to Reach its Destination (Origae-6)

Then it would depend on WHEN the Engineers Return.. if they Return a YEAR or so latter then the Covenant would be within a YEAR or so away from Planet 4....  HOWEVER... the Covenant had Traveled about a YEAR (likely Less) to get to Planet 4, that means that ANY of the Space Traffic (Earth Ships) that are located in/around our System would also be the Same Distance away from Planet 4 so HOW would the Engineers Detect which SHIP is the One they are After?

The likely explantions would come from.

1) The Engineers arrive before the Covenant has got that FAR, but then surely the Engineers would Intercept and Destroy the Covenant while it is just Traveling in the Middle of NO-WHERE.

2) The Engineers City was able to Monitor the Covenant and so is able to have a Visual Record of the Ship and then they are able to Visually Scan for Ships across a Large Distance and Zoom in to look at them at Detail and so then they Seek out a Matching Ship.  It could be likely the Covenant was a ONE-OF-A-KIND Ship.

A thing to Remember is Ridley Scott suggested that 3/4 Incoming Parties would be heading to where David is going and ONE of them is the Engineers.  The indication of 3/4 means that MAYBE 1/2 of those Parties are Connected... so TWO Types of Engineers, TWO Human Missions or it could be that ONE Party Contains TWO which are not exactly the same.

Maybe that could mean TWO Human Missions... plus the Engineers which is 3 Parties but they are bringing along Walter who is Party 4? (or someone else from Planet 4).

I think the Logical Reason the Engineers would determine where David was going and that he was the Culprit would be the Engineers would Discover either Walter, or they arrive after a Mission to Planet 4 by the Company is Underway.

@Chli

I think this is WHY we have to Consider this as NOT any Canon due to the Flaws/Errors which we would then have to be looking at Conspiracy to how it would FIT ;)

But if you Indulge me.... if we just look at the Covenant Suit as a Oversight...  (Unless there was TWO Ships as part of the Covenant Mission).

Then we could wonder HOW the Egg got there, also WHERE had Dr Shaw's Corpse been taken... Considering those then it could be likely the Shadow Figure was indeed Walter.... if its NOT then it could be the other Neomorph.

Back to the Engineers.... if we Consider what RS had said... I think it would be LIKELY the Engineers do RETURN to Planet 4 but this would be after a Number of Years, where by the Covenant has Reached its Destination by then... otherwise we have to Assume the Engineers would Intercept the Covenant before it reached Origae-6...

So the Engineers could Return say around 2112 give or take a Year, i would find it UNLIKELY the Company having received the Advent would ONLY go to Origae-6 (they could just do this).  Logically they would want to Investigate at least LV-223 but if LV-223 and Planet 4 are NOT to FAR apart they would also go to Planet 4 at some point too.

So we have to Wonder WHEN would they do this, Logically and then would they have Finished with these Missions, would they be Fruit-fall?  (i doubt it, as WHY go after the Derelict in ALIEN). And so we could Wonder if the Engineers Return while the Company has people on Planet 4 or LV-223 or that some Get Stranded after their Mission Ends in FOLLY!

Hi @BigDave. I think that, at least, one egg does not Open in David's basement. Maybe, the company men brought the egg upstairs, because it's easier to observe something with the help of the natural light.  The covenant suit  doesn't bother me. A company doesn't need to make new suits to every mission, because they go to space in a new ship :).

The company doesn't trust in David because he 'unplugged' Walter, a reliable  Android. I believe that the company Will send  a military mission headed to Origae-6 and then try to capture a perfect organism specimen.

It was a small Flick, but its was Nice and cool to watch it.

Alien Covenant movie has grown on me. To measure a success of a movie ONLY by its profit doesn't honor the artistic value of this form of art.

BigDave

Aug-25-2019 9:35 PM

Yeah i think its only a Easter Egg, but it would be interesting to see what would happen IF/WHEN the Company go to Planet 4.

I would assume.... that the Covenant is NOT the only Ship who wants to go to Origae-6 with Colonist to START ANEW!

So i assume another Colonist Mission is incoming a Few Years after the Covenant Arrives at Origae-6 the Crew/Colonist would likely have NO idea about what happened to the Covenant or Prometheus..

I then would assume another Ship could be heading after that, ONE that is a Military/Scientific and that is AWARE of what had happened via Davids Advent Message.

I then assume the Engineers with Walter will make up the 3rd and 4th of the Parties who will eventually arrive where David is off too.

As thats what RS had said about the intended Plot for the Sequel to Alien Covenant.  (Be 3-4 incoming Parties to where David is going... ONE will be the Engineers who return and Discover what Happened on Planet 4 and would want to Catch the Culprit).
