Between the news that Alien will indeed continue under Disney and these great new Fan made shorts, I firmly believe it's time to get Alien rolling with fresh new directors. No Cameron, No Scott but some one new. Anyone else agree?

I respectfully disagree.

Ridley Scott should be given the chance to conclude the prequels.

And without Ridley Scott what we would be discussing now and on what forum?

Look at the Predator and what it had become with the new blood.

I would welcome the usual top names floated like Alex Garland (Annihilation) or Danny Boyle (Sunshine). Undecided on Blomkamp. I like his stylistic films but dont like his alien 3 AR retcon idea. Surely he can come up with something original.

Agree with Daliens that Ridley Scott should be allowed to at least complete his trilogy.

Yes another director can take over and continue the franchise after Alien Awakening.

I think we certainly could do with some New Blood.

But the Franchise is so Fractured as far as Fanbase and how the Movies have been after Alien 3.

Ridley Scott should have been allowed to had TOLD his prequels, and i find some of the ideas VERY interesting, and its  a SHAME that we had to see those ideas Forced to becoming a Literal Prequel and have to Force the Xenomorph back.

In Hindsight this could have been avoided had Prometheus offered more clues and more Xenomorph like Action Scenes, which could have allowed the Door to Alien to be Shut and allowed a Prometheus 2 to continue with something Else.

Alternatively they could have offered more clues in a Prometheus 2 that would have indicated the Xenomorph as Ancient and shown David Creates something NEW but similar but showing Processes that are indicated to HOW the Engineers had achieved the Xenomorph

A Problem with any Prometheus 2 even if it gave us Xenomorphs or Clues or NOT would be having only a Humanoid Robot, a Human Scientist of Faith and some Engineers would be hard to Engage Fans as you would need more Humans and its HOW do you introduce those!

Hence the Necessity to bring things closer to Home (but you never needed to do that, i had ideas how to do this as surely Earth is not the only place with Humans Thousands of years ago).

So with the Prequels, the route they have taken and as a Alien: Prequel they are expected to connect to LV-426 and have Xenomorphs, so some of RS ideas would NOW be a Distraction.  They have to find a Balance but trying to Cater for many Elements can mean NONE are done justice which is kind of a Problem with Alien Covenant.

Then we come to the NOSTALGIA were some Fans have Lamented over not having any Real ALIENS like Movie, and you have to admit the Introduction of Queen has become a Iconic Part of the Franchise from a Merchandise, Comic, and Video Game Stand Point... Cameron's Queen and Xenomorphs do make up the HIGHER % of appearances in all Media Forms/Games.

I think most Fans would not see any problems with Alien or Aliens, i think Alien 3 had a mixed bag of opinions over it, and since then NO movie has really WOWED the Majority.

You have some Fans who Felt that KILLING off the Gang in Alien 3 was just plain WRONG... and to a degree in Hindsight i would say YES.. because there was potential for them to go another 1-2 Movies and then Pass the Torch to NEWT.

And Blomkamps Alien 5 idea appeared to be offering the same, we need to remember Originally his ideas NEVER had Ripley, but after talking to Miss Weaver on Set of one of his Movies, he warmed to the idea of BRINGING BACK THE DEAD (i mean Gang) lol  Which could just be a case of catering to NOSTALGIA now i dont like the idea because of how it would RET-CON some of the Franchise and i FEAR once you go that route its a case of WHERE does Disney STOP?

But on the base of it... this Nostalgia Road Trip, by bringing back Cameron too... i feel would ACTUALLY have more potential to make Disney $$$$ even if the Movie is NOT great or Original, i think it would attract a lot of interest and $$$$

Personally any such PLOT should be used either as a sequel to ALIENS/ALIEN 3 that has NO Ripley or Co.. or used as a Continuation to ALIEN Resurrection.   This means NO bringing back Hicks or Newt... but whats done is done.

Thats the Ridley Scott/Prequels and Cameron Sequel ideas given my Two Cents.

Back to the OT as far as something NEW a different Direction and Director, with a NEW Story.

There are many ways this could be Covered, and the Prequels have opened up a MUCH larger avenue to explore. I will say that any NEW ALIEN movie would be expected to have some connections to ALIEN as far as the Aesthetic/DNA of the Xenomorph but it does-not have to be about the Traditional Xenomorph, you can change it a little but i think you would have to keep it quite close... because certain Fans would expect more of a Connection Genetically so to speak.

There kind of are some UNUSED to a degree Avenues that the ALIEN early Draft had that was not really used, which relates to a ALIEN Organism with the same/similar Life-Cycle that was Intelligent and had its own Civilization of Sorts, that some Giant Race had stumbled upon their remains of their Spore Stage and attempted to take them to their Ship for Study.

Likewise Alien Engineers (Prometheus early draft) had expanded on this, but having a NOT so intelligent Organism being Discovered and Re-Engineered by the Engineers.

The indication being these Engineers had created 8 Variations of the Xenomorph, which would be stored in 8 different Cargo Holds.

THIS.... Plot reveal could be used to explain the 1979 Big Chap and Egg Morph vs the 1986 Queen Egg Layer and different Warriors.

If these are just TWO of those Variants and TWO alternative Procreation Routes... then why cant we see other VARIANTS and different Procreation Methods where those working on Concepts could get a bit Imaginative!

As long as it has a Unique Life-Cycle that is Parasitic and Horrific and the Organisms do-not stray to far from the Xenomorph DNA... then WHY NOT!

New Monster, New Story and New Director!

I agree that Scott should conclude his trilogy, but with Disney now pulling strings it almost feels unlikely as much as I hate to admit it.

100% agree on Alex Garland. He's been my favorite for years now, pretty much since I first saw Ex Machina. But I'd have to say no to Christopher Nolan. He seems to be in an ultra rare league next to Denis Villaneauve in the fact the dude does not make bad movies, something Ridly Scott, James Cameron, and hell even Stephen Spielberg can't claim. But style wise he's all wrong. He sticks to pg13 ratings, epic budgets, and uplifting emotional impacts.I think if he made an Alien film it wouldn't be terribly dissimilar from Aliens, which isn't a bad thing, but more like been there done that which to be fair is a problem with the franchise in general.

After Ridley Scott I would try somebody totally new to direct an Alien film. And why not Perfecto Cuervo who recently staged Alien: The Play at North Bergen High School?

Blomkamp (with or not Cameron) is the best way. New ideas are the worst path for franchise now. Need good oldschool story.

Just destroy your opinion (ego) and thinks about the benefits for franchise. Prometheus and Covenant are great films, but the benefit for franchise are dubious.

I believe in Disney.

Leto Perfecto Cuervo is good old school, just fresh blood for the franchise. He did a good job with talented high school kids and a set made from recycled materials, imagine what he could do with an army of talented actors / set designers / visual effects behind him.

If you care for the franchise, just forget Blomkamp/JC comedians. You want to shoot xenomorphs by tens or hundreds, buy yourself a video game, it will make you feel way better than any Blomkamp/JC film.

Get out of the box!

I saw Aliens yesterday - and, yes, it was great. Something like Aliens can restore the popularity of the franchise. Because, surprise(!!!), people love Aliens (disastrous word for adepts of philosophy, lol) and Colonial Marines. If you want to be original - just replace Queen with Engineer.

And get the box office!

They can do the Colonial Marines any time later. Anybody can do it. About restoring the popularity of the franchise in that way, I have some doubts, The Predator was a total failure at that. We are not in the 90's anymore.

I was watching Alien earlier tonight, my top favorite sci fi movie . I often wonder my self, when Kane goes down . To the eggs in the derelect ship and . The blue mist covering the deadly Alien eggs and , who put it there . Cause wedw all love to know who did? Who was on Lv426, after the people on Covenant . Cause there has to be other members who , lands there . Cause if Ridley Scott is gonna , make more sequels to the franchise . Connecting them up to the original ALIEN , then big pointers like this needs to be answered . Also why in Covenant , is the air breathable and has grass etc and . In Alien it's dark humid , I know the original movie was made 40 years ago . So understandly there was no reason to ask these things , but now PROMETHEUS, COVENANT have been made is prequels . Think there's holes , should be addressed and answered ??

@Pagey

I can answer those for you and welcome aboard.

The Blue Myst appears to had been some Protective Device for the Egg Cargo, it does-not offer any kind of HARD Shield Barrier, and so it was there so that the Cargo of Eggs remain Inactive as you dont want any of those Face Huggers Getting Loose...  but once you enter that barrier and touch those Eggs your in trouble.. so its likely the Eggs have some kind of Sensory Method to detect when a Viable Host is close by, and the Blue Myst is likely a Protective Measure that renders those Eggs unable to Detect any Hosts outside that Barrier.

A thing to remember is Originally the idea was that those Eggs are a Engineered Bio-Weapon by the Space Jockey, related to the Experiments they was carrying out on LV-223 in Prometheus.   About 200 years after/before the Outbreak that Killed Most of the Engineers off on LV-223 a Engineer Ship had attempted to leave with its Cargo, but the Cargo Evolved and got to the Pilot, who then knowing he was infected, had Set-Down on near by LV-426 in a attempt to Quarantine the Cargo and WARN his fellow Race of a Containment Breach... he was Chest Busted during his Decent to the Moon.

THIS ^^ is Ridley Scotts Original Idea/Explanation but things have Changed since Alien Covenant...

What we now are looking at IF they continue the David Creates the Xenomorph ARC/Plot, is that within 17 years of the End of Alien Covenant, Davids Xenomorphs have to multiply into Thousands and End-up on a Engineer Ship that would be traveling too or leaving LV-223 prior to ENDING UP on LV-426.

IF David first goes to Origae-6 then he would not reach there with the Covenant until the year 2112 and so 10 Years before ALIEN, if we look at this then if David goes to LV-223 after, then it would take him about 7-8 years so that would leave just TWO YEARS (or so) for David to do what ever he wanted on Origae-6 and then have the Derelict end up on LV-426... so its more likely that a Engineer Ship arrives at Origae-6 and this ship then heads to LV-223.  Then either leaves with more Engineered Eggs, or fails to get their and infected by the Cargo it obtained from Origae-6.

Regarding the Planet in Alien Covenant, this World is the Home-world or at least One Colony of the Engineers, and was a very Earth like Place.   The World in ALIEN/ALIENS (LV-426) is indicated (subject to change) as a near by Moon to the Engineers Outpost on LV-223 and at some point, the Derelict will be either.

*Heading to LV-223 but only getting as CLOSE as LV-426

*Leaving LV-223 but only getting as FAR as LV-426

Regarding the Debate about the ALIEN Franchise Next Avenue.

You cant and WONT please every fan, there are many things that some Fans are NOT happy with but all we can do is carry on from them and try and amend/damage control.    So such Problems fans have like this.

*Man that Space Jockey was a Skeleton for Sure!

*I wont accept the Xenomorph is NOT Ancient.

*No Way did David create the Xenomorph

*Those Engineers cant be the Space Jockey

*They should not have KILLED Hicks and Newt

They are all things we have to accept, and try and work around, its a BAD idea to change such things to please some Fans...

We also need to consider that we have to find the Balancing Act, but to try and please everyone is something thats VERY HARD!

Right Now, we have to accept that a Majority of People Associate the ALIEN Franchise with the Queen and Xenomorphs, some Fans may Lament for Ripley, Hicks and Newt... but the Franchise is BIGGER than those Characters.

The Franchise is renowned mostly for the Xenomorph, and like it or not, Cameron's Queen has been the Bedrock of Comics, Games, and Movies after ALIENS (Prequels Excluded).

I dont think Fans are into the Prequels so much!

And so for Disney to continue with the Franchise i think they have to play it SAFE and we have to have a very ALIEN movie, and thats the route to go NEXT...

This Movie SHOULD-NOT be a Bring the Gang Back.... i would even say it Does-not have to have any Ripley Family Ties...

The Movie should try and Balance ALIEN and ALIENS, we dont want a ALIENS Part TWO but some Fans may, but i think we have to be more Imaginative.

The Movie would have to Consider what ever Plans they have even if its NOT to be shown EVER.. they need to have the Plans of HOW we get Prometheus connecting to ALIEN, so that they can give us a ALIEN Movie that can back up what ever clues/plans they intend for a Prequel, so as to NOT step on the Toes of any Future Prequels.

This Movie should NOT be a Prequel to ALIEN, or if it is then it has to NOT conflict with what ever they intended as far as David and the Covenant...    It has to be STAND ALONE Movie that does-not directly tie into David or Ripley.

The Movie has to have Xenomorphs, likely a Queen, it has to balance between a ALIEN and ALIENS or be more a ALIENS but set up a Sequel thats more ALIEN or Vice Versa!

This Movie has to have some connective tissue to things from the Prequels, so that a Sequel could introduce us to some things from the Prequels, which could include Various Xenomorph Hybrids, Engineers and Technology.  So that it can ENGAGE some Fans who want a ALIENS but are NOT really SOLD on the Prequels, we have to have it so that we can get those Fans SOLD on ideas from the Prequels... even if its more in tone to the Engineers from the Comics.

They have to Cater for those kinds of Fans, as this is what would make more MONEY and get the Brand Recognized more and IF this FLOPS... then i think they are in a Pickle!  But if it works, then they have to have it so that either in the NEXT MOVIE or its Sequel, the Fans would be like..

"i really would like to see more about those Engineers now"

"how cool would different types of Xenomorph be"

So if Disney are thinking that the Origins of the Xenomorph are NOT by David, then this Movie has to indicate somehow that this is the case...  which leaves what David gets up to a Mystery or opens up a Continuation of that Story that does-not have to Force itself to be ALIEN..  Or this Movie should indicate that indeed the events starting with Engineers Experiments, then Davids continuation had led to the Xenomorph... and those who dont like that idea would have to accept it or just watch Alien 1-4 and AVP if they choose lol

Prequel Fans are going to have to accept that its best to Produce a Stand Alone Movie, that Transpires in the Time-Line of 2115-2215 and a Movie that can engage Fans to consider following up on some things from the Prequels (Engineers for example).

And accept they may NOT see the Prequels Finished, but hopefully Future Movies could explore some elements the Prequels tried to do differently.

I think Prequel Fans would be HAPPY to have their Prequels Finished in Context of a NOVEL...

I think it would be better for those Blomkamp Alien 5 Fans to get this Story in Terms of a Graphic Novel/Comic.

But the above is just how i think we should go, and its NOT going to please everyone, but i dont think they can make another ALIEN Movie that will please everyone ANYMORE!

No thanks to Nolan, I haven’t liked him since the Dark Knight Rises which was eww. One director that at least did one movie that I like is Danny Boyle and Alex Garland wrote it. Maybe those two could do an alien movie? At least they have one movie that is good at least to me but maybe one is not enough.
