I know, I know. :v This probably comes up every now and then, but has anyone deeply invested into understanding their language? Not the written/symbols part, by the way. The spoken portion, I know I heard some in Covenant, before David did his thing on the Engineer city. Maybe it meant run? Anyhow, I have a Google Docs with information I've collected across multiple places on it, maybe someone interested could get a kick out of it. So here ya go. :P

Language Findings.

I'm obsessed with their language, I'll be using that link, thanks

@ NonsenseBody - If you search this site, you will find translations of the Engineer & David's Prometheus conversation.  I believe it was titled:  The Engineer Speaks?  I believe it was Sukal who deciphered it?

@Cerulean Blue

I think I've seen that, because I do have the translation of that conversation. :P Is Sukal still around? It'd be nice to have a fellow language nerd around to dig further into this.

@NonsenseBody - I do not know where Sukal is?  Maybe Chris knows?

Thank you NonsenseBody

Here below is an excerpt from the Weyland-Yutani Report, page 59, regarding the translation.

Ingeniero

Is the Weyland-Yutani Report worth it? It looks like a great tome of Alien goodness.

You're most welcome NonsenseBody. Thank you for the topic.

I recommend the Weyland-Yutani Report Lawrence of Arabia. There are some errors with dates and details but not many. What I like about the report is the amount of small excerpts that help stitch together the backstory. It is all pretty good but the sections on the Prometheus mission and Fiorina 161 are some of my favorites. And it has a great timeline.

Also, a lot of the intelligence images shown comes from helmet feeds and event reports written by characters such as Michael Bishop...so it has a bit of a corporate-view feel to it.

Lawrence of Arabia and Ingeniero - The W-Y Report contains several useful pieces of info but according to a source it is not canon anymore.

Ingeniero Thank you :) Considering picking it up, love getting all the info!

Ati What source is that? :0

Ha, a secret one! :D

Ati If you don't mind my asking :P What isn't canon in the Weyland-Yutani Report? Doesn't it pretty much state what's in the films?

Lawrence of Arabia - True! The problem is what Ingeniero mentioned plus the thing you write - it collects the info from the movies and sources but contradictions can't be explained by it. As an example, it can't answer the mystery around the LV moons, zeta-reticuli, etc.

But it is useful and very OK! :)

Ah, I get it :) Hopefully they release a more up-to-date tome soon.

I too am fascinated by the alien language, both spoken and written.

The engineer speaking scene was my favourite scene in the Prometheus film, even if it was cut, it really added to the atmosphere, because that engineers voice was deep and godly sounding.

Was there ever any translations of the writings on the walls and urns?

@TheXenoneoprotomorph Whoa, is that an actual find/line or did you make that up?

NonsenseBody

MemberOvomorphSep-25-2017 10:50 AM

@AdamPD I believe some people have tried to translate it, but I can't recall if made out any real words or such.

 I read the notes and composed it myself

@TheXenoneoprotomorph Nice, though, I'd be careful. Because making our own sentences can be tricky since it's not in the English order of grammar structure.

Didn't use the English grammar structure

@TheXenoneoprotomorph

Thumbs up to me for paying attention, Lol. Sorry about that. At least my previous reply can serve as a small note for others.
