the first time david thought he killed him, he regenerated and when david and walter are fighting, if david kills walter, he would have no time to make sure he was dead sinse the ship was leaving. walter was also able to regenerae from a stabb to the neck(witch brings up the question why his arm didn't grow back). also because this was an engineer civilization, there is bound to be more juggernaut ships. if david knows how to piolit one, certaintly walter, the more advanced one would be able to. right?

I think thast walter is going to take an engineer ship to origea 6 in the next movie.

Last I saw, Walter straddled David about to punch him and David said it was better to rule in hell then to serve in heaven. Then the scene ended with both alive. I think Walter lives.

I wonder if it's a case of Walter lost his head somehow, like David did lol

Then the Engineers come back to find an alive, but decapitated Walter in their church/holy building.

dk

MemberTrilobiteAug-18-2017 7:40 PM

I saw no evidence of a decapitation.

Where are the power packs for these robots housed? If I were David, I'd have ripped out an incapacitated Walter's power pack.

MemberTrilobiteAug-18-2017 8:48 PM

David apparently ripped out something from Walter after the initial ass whoopin' but it looked ambiguous. Later, Walter showed up and said that he had received upgrades since David's time.

bit unrelated, but the title suddenly reminded me of Lambert asking if Brett could still be alive

Wasn't that just the flute that David pulled out of Walter, and gave it a bit of shaking off?

MemberXenomorphAug-19-2017 11:31 AM

It was the flute.

After being hit by the rock David's voice was distorted. How did he fix it?

"He survived, he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, Jesus Christ!"

i think that a massive clue was RS stating the Xeno will reform its hands and legs basically repairing.

does this not set up 2 characters to fight -walter vs Xeno good (?) vs evil(!) excitement and small time for act1

I don't recall David's voice being particularly 'distorted'.

If David couldn't leave Planet 4 on a juggernaut, then neither can Walter.  Remember, David has been on Planet 4 for some time.  I'm sure he would leave if he could.
All juggernaut's were apparently shut down by a killswitch once the Engineers on Planet 4 realized what was happening.

This has been discussed in other threads and I am just repeating what I have read multiple times, so in no way am I the best to explain the finer details.

It may be possible for Walter to get a ship going. David became loco with no scheduled updates and was focused on his experiments. Maybe Walter could figure out a way that David missed- and it could be so if Sir Ridley wants it that way.

@dk

I guess this opens up a debate

I Moon Girl

MemberChestbursterAug-19-2017 2:41 PM

After watching David in Prometheus and in Alien: Covenant and after he ran out of specimens to experiment on, why would he stay on Planet 4.  At the end of A:C, he readily snuck his way onto the Covenant.  He left at a moments notice.  Even if he planned on the Covenant mission to intercept his Shaw signal, I don't think he would have an exact time to be ready.  Maybe he got ready to leave a year or two in advance?  He even had little facehuggers in some preserver just like the human embryo's.  I wonder how he made those?

That preserved facehugger fact leads into another debate.  This debate being, "Why would David have preserved facehuggers unless he knew the Covenant, a ship which has the technology to store preserved embryos, was going to intercept his Shaw signal?"  If you see where I am going, he probably had around a year to prepare at the most.  (I am just going to say it, I think David tampered with the Covenant mission so that he can take control of the ship and the hypersleeping colonists.)

I guess he would stay if he knew the Covenant ship was going to intercept his Shaw signal.  That would give him a reason to wait out being stranded on Planet 4.  Of course, that claim is up for debate in this forum too.  That way he can get those hypersleeping colonists to experiment on.  Then, he has all the specimens he needs.

I guess David could've gotten a ship working, but just chose to wait for the Covenant.

So, if Walter is still alive, which I like to think he is, then all he has to do is learn alien technology.  He's smart like David.

Hmmmm... but there is one different.  One BIG different.

In Prometheus, Holloway wrote a thesis about the Engineers before he ever encounter them.  If I remember right, this thesis contained information on language.  So, correct me if I am wrong, but David knew the language because he read Holloway's thesis and used that language to to get the juggernaut going in Prometheus for Shaw.

So, not only would Walter have to figure out how the alien vessel would work, but he would also have to be able to read the language on the ship.  Maybe there is a school on Planet 4 for the Engineers which teaches language or languages?  Still, in the bombing sequence, all the Engineers looked like adults.  Of course, that scene was  quick one at that!  Also, maybe he can find a juggernaut manual in a library, but then he would have to be able the read the Engineer language.

The biggest problem I see with Walter taking a juggernaut is figuring out how to work one and how to read the language.  David had Holloway's thesis to learn the language.  For Walter, he is basically stuck in France and never even heard of the language they speak and has just found out that they even exist maybe 10 hours after he was left on that planet.  Linguist do say that you can learn a language by immersing yourself in the people of that country.  Still, you need somebody or something to help and Walter has no one to learn from or anything he can read.  There is also still one neomorph running around too.  He could be screwed to be honest.  If that neomorph doesn't find him, the Engineers may.  That's if they return.

Maybe there are a group of Engineers hiding out from David in some bunker that Walter ends up finding?  Still, how would those Engineers be surviving?  I guess they're aliens to us, so who knows what they are capable of.

We don't know how long David has been on Planet 4, so if he was there for a long time, David would have a good chance of finding those hiding Engineers.  With all of the experiments he showed Oram, he definitely didn't just arrive.

The following is a side discussion that I thought of.  The question is, "Was David leaving Planet 4 in the bombing footage or was he arriving?"  Maybe the Engineers where waving goodbye to David and Shaw?  David could've been stocking up on supplies from them with the Mother Juggernaut before leaving and then he decided to drop the bomb.  David seems like the type that wants to interview before he kills.  So, David studied the Engineers on Planet 4 and Shaw got her answers to why the Engineers wanted to kill the humans.  She would also get the answer to why they didn't.  So, maybe the Engineers where accepting of Shaw and David because they changed there mind on killing them.  LV-223 was a quite place, yet we movie viewers haven't seen much information about it either.  So, the Engineers could've been waving David and Shaw goodbye for their return trip back to Earth when David thought he'd kill them by dropping the goo.  Then, the Mother Juggernaut knocks David's vessel out of the sky and then maroons David on Planet 4.  David did use the word "maroon" in the movie, yet who knows what the truth is with David?

The RS commentary during the David/Walter fight said that basically here we see Walter die, "or so we think".

dk

MemberTrilobiteAug-19-2017 4:52 PM

I Moon Girl Interesting points. As far as the commentary, the regurgitated facehuggers "tucking in the kids" were a referense to real world female drug smugglers getting drugs accross a border by ingesting and then passing them.

If David knew about the Covenant's arrival, it would make sense for David to wait instead of trying to make an existing juggernaut operational. It is a human ship with lots of hosts.

Not sure how Walter could figure out Engineer language unless he had it pre programmed- but we see no evidence of that. It would be interesting if Walter found a pocket of survivors to learn the language and ultimately about juggernaut technology.

There was an unaccounted for neomorph, but I wonder if it will go the way of the unaddressed Deacon.

I was under the impression the People were waving hello to David and Shaw as they arrived. RS alluded to this in the commentary. The way you put it sounds pretty interesting though too.

@hox, yeah davids voice is distorted, watched covenant last night and noticed it in that scene.

dk

MemberTrilobiteAug-19-2017 5:34 PM

airshaft_surprise A nod to Ash before Ripley torched him? The voice sounded distorted the same way.

MemberChestbursterAug-19-2017 5:42 PM

@dk

I guess the question would arise if Walter did find surviving Engineers, "Would they trust him?"

MemberFacehuggerAug-19-2017 5:42 PM

@dk, and Bishop as well in alien3 when ripley reactivates his head.

dk

MemberTrilobiteAug-19-2017 5:46 PM

I Moon Girl I imagine they would not trust Walter especially considering being identical to David. It would be interesting to observe Walter overcome that obstacle though!

I Moon Girl

MemberChestbursterAug-19-2017 6:16 PM

@dk

True, but did they have time to see his face.  He was really high in the sky too.  If Engineers created humans, then they don't have vision to different than humans.

Of course, these points are based on the idea that David and Shaw were arriving to Planet 4.  If they were actually leaving Planet 4, then they would have obviously known what he looks like.  Then, I could see trust issues for sure.

MemberChestbursterAug-19-2017 6:18 PM

They may not even know that he is human.  Well, looks like a human.

If they know he is a "human", then I think Earth is back on the hit list.  If that word gets out to the space jockey Engineers, I think Earth is doomed!  I hate David...

MemberTrilobiteAug-19-2017 6:21 PM

I Moon Girl David is lethal, as RS said. IDK that the Engineers know the difference based on appearance alone I wish Walter would have come out victorious. Fingers crossed for the next movie. Most movies have ended badly though.

If you look closely I think you can see some grow back on Walter's hand towards the end. Am I wrong? Personally I think it is Walter on the Covenant, despite what RS says..

I think this is a interesting Question...

I have not listened to no commentary, but there are a lot of Questions raised regarding the David vs Walter Fight, a lot of Questions Raised regarding the Regenerative Ability of Walter and David, and we have to assume that they can only Regenerate to a degree.

We have to Safely Assume Walter had been incapacitated by David and was unable to follow him.

Regarding the Engineer Ships as I Moon Girl mentioned, regarding the Ships, we have to assume maybe there was NO MORE Ships or that there is some Reason David could not have taken one. The Concept Work and deleted Scene shows the Hanger has a number of Ships but it was suggested that after the Bombardment the Ships had entered a Quarantine/Dis-activated State.  This is a bit of Bad Writing however, because surely in 10 years David would have found a way to Activate a Ship.

But as we dont see any more in the Theatrical Cut we can not assume for 100% that there are more ships, as this then gives good reason to why David was stranded.

I dont think Walter would be able to use Engineer Technology as well as David because David had learned and Studied Proto Languages that allowed him to Speak to the Engineers. So we could assume without the lessons David would maybe not have been able to understand.... but then also with AC we have to ask how did David know how to play the Piano if this was the first time he was activated?  Something has to be learned by being passed on, which the Flute Scene showed.

We cant rule out Walter being able to learn how to use Engineer Technology etc, given time but a Big Question would be in what STATE of Disrepair is Walter in?    The David that Dr Shaw went to collect would be of no use in TWO Parts especially if they are far apart (Head/Body)

I think Walter is Alive, but disabled as i really think this is the only logical explanation to how the Engineers are able to determine that David has done all this and where David is off to, The Question is how do the Engineers get this information from Walter?

Why people so sure what Walter remained on Planet 4? Why not David? Maybe they concluded a pact... a covenant. David remained on Planet 4 (mb even dead) and Walter accept to David's mission and decided to "rule in hell" - go to in ship on Origae-6.

Remember the SCAR on Walter's face (in fight with David) - we have how he "heal" it on Covenant. David haven't a scar on his face. Nobody saw they battle. There's no reason to make a scar specially.

Why does Walter says David's ID on aboard? Mb the Covenant starship was intended specifically for David! This was a covenant between WY and android. And, I think, what Walter was a new body for David or successor. And (on Planet 4) David told him his own ID. Why? Because a Walter has a better body and more resources.

leto: it cannot be walter on the ship because the give away that he was david was that he didn't know of the cabin on the lake. if it were walter but evil, he would have bean able to bluff to daniells about the cabin. also he requests muther to play the enternce to valhala witch is something that david had a personal connectio to.

id say the only way the engineers can go after David is that they find out where he may be going from Walter. other than orbital tech I don't see how else theyl be able to go after him to origae6
