The collectors edition is just another behind the scenes/making of book. I have only read so far in it, but you probably don't need to purchase it. Get the novel though. It is a really great read!
Not a map, an invitation

Do you recommend to read the novel before seeing the movie? I did not stay away from spoilers so far, on the contrary. Unfortunately by the time I'll be back on terra firma the movie won't be in theaters any longer.

I think with Alan Dean Foster books, he kind of assumes you've seen the movie so he doesn't goes as in depth as he might with some of his descriptions, because he thinks you can visualize the setting and characters based on the film.
I'd say it's not necessary to see the movie first but, watch all the prologues and promotional material on youtube then read the novel!
The novel makes for good company on a long space-flight. Have fun out there!

Thank you, Vivi! I'll read the book first. I'm sure I'll not be disapointed by the movie.
Best wishes for you and the little one!

Thanks again, Vivi!
You are among the ones I trust on this forum. I'll read the book first.
Take care!
