When did we get so anal about movie franchises?

I don't expect much, actually. But, then again, what are "these days" without "old timers" like us? :)

As someone born in the '60s, I figure I can use codger lingo like "these days" and old timers". I forgot to preface the OP with "Back in my day..." and calling everyone else "Whippersnappers." Topped off with a throaty "Goddammit!"
