I thought he had some tickets for another viewing and had a give away contest? It is one of the news items but IDK if anyone won.

Chris, I can't say enough good things about you, the staff, and the forum all of you created much to the enjoyment of many.

That being said, I think it is a tad bit insensitive (you suck) to rub it in that you are going to see Alien: Covenant for the second time while I'm still reviewing trailers, historical artwork, etc...

Thank you for any additional review though.

Chris- I just have one question: How does Shaw play into this?

Obsession is a Power, not a Curse ;)

@Ingeniero, apologies my friend! For anyone who read my review this was meant to be a follow up to that, since I had some gripes following my initial viewing.

As a result of the second viewing however, I must say I did notice a few things I hadn't before but those details were subtle and not integral to the plot. The issues I have remain...

SPOILERS....

The Chestburster. (Born from a Human being) The damn Chestburster and its interaction with David were out of place. I'm dubbing it the "Minimorph" as reference because it in no way resembled the iconic Chestburster. It's basically a minified version of an adult Xenomorph. Not sure why they chose to introduce the Xenomorph this way, or how they will explain the differences with Chestbursters down the road to end up at Alien.

That and the growth rate for the Xenomorph. Still seemed too quick compared to previous versions.

They're petty gripes I know, the rest of the film was spectacular. But being somewhat of a hard core fan, I like a little continuity with my prequels and sequels. This part just threw me off for a sec. The way it doesn't scurry off to cocoon itself was odd. The way it stood up to "worship" David was odd. The way it was already fully developed with arms, legs, tail, skull and inner jaw was odd. It just seemed odd to me. But again, like I said, everything else was awesome.

All sarcastic pouting on my part mixed with jealousy Chris. Great review, thank you for the spoilers.

I can only assume that a "biomechanical" organism takes more time to form in regards to what we saw in Alien and what you describe in Alien: Covenant.

Is there an actual follow up review on a different thread or are the two paragraphs above the fllow up?

Chris

AdminEngineerMay-11-2017 5:09 PM

Most of my points didn't change so I felt no need to do a complete new review. I noticed more the second time around so definitely recommend 2 or 3 viewings. But in terms of overall impression, nothing changed.

After the Alien burst out of his chest. David did the thing with the arms and the Alien copied him. At first, I thought it was a bit odd too. But seemed like David was doing something similar with the tall pale Alien( maybe ultra morph). I think he suspects that if you're not some organic target or threat, you may be able to communicate with it or even control it. Maybe Ridley is developing another facet to the whole Alien universe. Could be a hive minded creature, where David is in control.

"how do you feel?"-" great, next stupid question"

It's fine if you don't want to answer this, but if you wouldn't mind.

How did Shaw die?

Well i agree Chris.... 2nd viewing did help me a bit too lol

I will leave my review until the 20th and then a week after i can then start to discus plenty about this movie...

There is something i want to say.. oh well i will say it as its not a spoiler and its only my opinion... and the general reaction is a Good movie, i have seen it with 4 people now and 3 of them liked it the other thought it was ok...

If you ignore AVP for how it brings the Aliens into 21st Century Timeline and Weyland as CEO.... But look at the Action, the effects, the Acting....    and do the same with Alien Resurection if we ignore the Ripley 8 Clone and playing Basketball, and New Born and how they cloned Ripley...

Again again look at the Action and effects and Acting..

Then Alien Covenant does a very good job, Action is there not lots of it, i would say less than AVP and even a bit less than Alien R, Effects are for the most part very good... some shots of the Aliens look CGI too much... but not to bad...

Acting is good, not a cheesy as Prometheus as Prometheus has that kind of Marvel Super Hero kind of Acting to it... Alien Covenant is very serious...

The Sets and Lighting... and Music... all i can say is WOW... Ridley Scott knocked this way out of the Park.

without Spoilers... i will give my review in about 7 days time.

For now just my Scores to how i review stuff which i will cover in Depth.

VISUALS 8/10 Stunning with a few CGI gripes (minor)

AUDIO/SOUND 9/10 Not Perfect but again excelent

ACTING/CHARACTERS 7/10 More Realistic, few flaws.

PLOT 6/10 Half of it is good, half rushed/flawed

EXECUTION 6/10 within confines to some of the plot it does its job.

OVERALL 6/10 Close but no Cigar.

I do feel if Prometheus had cut out say 30 minutes... and if it added the better type of acting in AC and added 40-50 min of AC more Alieny Connections then we would have had a very Good First Movie.

BigDave Evidently not a classic. The score is on free fall on IMBD (currently 7.5) My major concern is how long it seems to take the action to kick off. At least in Prometheus you get the crew arriving on the planet within the first 10 minutes. I heard the story lags at the beginning and nothing noteworthy happens for the first 40 mins. And when it finally does, the action feels rushed, with major lapses of philosophizing in between each creature attack. The last clip with the facehugger and the eggs looks just awful. I've seen better props at the Halloween store. Is it maybe that out of the 100 million budget 80 were spent on the advertising campaign?

One of those things really...   they could have split this movie in TWO Parts...

So we get the first half of the movie to explore some stuff but leave the xenomorph until the next movie, but then due to the slow burner that arrived to the Xenomorph well Egg scene... if this was the end of the movie there would not be enough to bring the fans to watch it

Agreed a lot seemed rushed.... i think it needed a good 45 minutes more, but then this raises more problems... does the rest of the crew apart from Oram, spend even more time around a Camp Fire and trying to Radio Contact the Covenant?

The Xenomorph scenes was rushed in more ways than one... but then i wont give more away than that out of respect for those who have not seen the movie.

I dont think visually its all that bad... certainly needed a good 45 minutes longer to evolve scenes, and a good 50M more Budget and 4 Months Production to had improved some parts.
