MemberOvomorphMay-01-2017 12:07 AMSo I am just curious...Since all these prequels are supposed to lead into the original Alien, at what point are we going to see the dots connected? Considering the rumors that the next movie will actually occur prior to Covenant, does that mean we have to wait for a third movie to put the puzzle together? Or will Covenant take us home?? Any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated...my first post ever so don't judge me if it's a dumb question.

MemberChestbursterMay-01-2017 2:07 AMI've considered the possibility that Covenant will take us home. When Ridley was asked about the timeline and he revealed Awakening was a prequel, his comments seemed to allude to the idea that the Covenant ship is critical to tying into Alien.
He has also stated that if Covenant does well and Awakening does well there will likely be several more films. We can take that statement one of two ways.
One, he's suggesting that once we're finished with Awakening, he'll be moving forward with finally connecting to Alien somewhere amidst several other films.
Two, he's letting on to the fact that Covenant will be wrapping up the prequels to Alien, then Awakening will open up the door to depart from the xeno origin story and we'll be back to expanding the lore of the engineers and other advanced civilizations.
Consider this. If he's saying he's uncertain on whether there will be more films after Awakening, then he'd be taking a significant risk by not connecting Covenant to Alien. I doubt fans awaiting the true prequel would appreciate Scott possibly never getting there.
However, let's say he really doesn't care about taking such a risk. There is one other option.
When Prometheus was released, Scott had prepared for it to act as a stand alone in the event the money required for sequels wasn't made at the box office. That said, Prometheus appeared to have been designed so that if it DID end up as a stand alone, viewers would have all the pieces to use their imagination and infer the rest of the puzzle.
We all know what happened. The film made more than projected and now we're getting more information on the events that let to Alien. He could do the same thing here with Covenant. Give us even more puzzle pieces to play with without directly connecting to Alien so that if no further films are made, at least we will have more of an idea of what happened. And then if more films ARE made, Scott will use at least 1 of them to continue building the bridge to Alien. This would be clever on his part. So as long as we continue paying to follow his epic sci-fi magnum-opus, he'll continue providing us with more content to bridge the gap.
But really at this point it's hard to say.

MemberChestbursterMay-01-2017 2:43 AMthe one thing i was hoping for with covenant was to expand on the universe and explore the engineers, murals, myths and open things up.
however, looking at how i see the film flowing i dont think there is much opportunity for this.
i think any reveals we get will be through david with the crew after the "burned civilisation" scene. and the bombarding moment, if anything is revealed then
the film is rumoured 2:02. i just dont see where the opportunity will be.
its looking like its a full on horror blood bath again. giving the people "what they want"
so after all the hype i am now starting to put my feet firmly on the ground and just accept and enjoy what we get.
i would of liked some prometheus answers i just dont think we will get many this time.
Take This.... This is the blood of our lord

MemberFacehuggerMay-01-2017 4:03 AMI would be curious about more prequels. Maybe when the engineers inhabited earth and ruled over humans and the rebellion against them that drove them out. It could introduce new creatures/monsters. and still be in the same alien universe. If it ever cam e down to "the last alien movie" I think it would awesome if the xeno spread made it to earth and it never stopped. I stole that idea from Life. :-)

MemberOvomorphMay-01-2017 3:22 PMNo doubt, I appreciate the opinions. No matter how it plays out I'm sure it will be quality. I might be weird but I love getting down to square one of things. Seeing where everything begins is what it's all about to me.

In Part this is pretty much the nail on the head....
Alien Prequel started with a Idea...
1) Xenomorph was a series of Bio-Weapons the Space Jockey Race had created. Which they had created various versions of this on a Outpost on LV-426
2) The Space Jockey would be revealed to be a Giant Race of Humanoids, who seeded life on Earth and are actually connected to the creation of Mankind and Evolving us both Technologically but also Genetically.
3) These Engineers as they are now called, wanted to destroy Mankind and the Xenomorph was created in part to perform this Task.
Prometheus came along (Lindeloffs work) to tone down the Xenomorph connections and to remove any actual Xenomorph Aliens, and replace them with a Biological Pathogen/Mutagen that seemed to pass Xenomorph Traits.... The rest of the Plot points 1-3 remained, only instead of Actually showing Xenomorphs they showed Experiments that either would hint at how the Xenomorphs would come to be... or came from the Xenomorph.
LV-426 was changed to LV-223 and a plot elements changed a little. Overall it was essentially the same Plot though...
It was intended that enough Clues would be there to give us hints to the Xenomorph while keeping the event a Mystery, as the Xenomorph had been done and done and done, and they felt exploring the Space Jockey and Experiments that are related to the Xenomorph and reasons for it was the way to go.
A Sequel would explore the Engineers more, and their Agenda and why the Xenomorph was created without having to actually show us the Xenomorph.
======================
ULTIMATELY Fans was disappointed with Prometheus because it never had Aliens, because it never gave answers and did not show the Space Jockey, some was even upset the Space Jockey was now Humanoids... Prometheus had some flaws, but i think the most part if more Alieny events such as Aliens and Eggs was in this movie like Spaights draft had then this may have pleased more fans.
=================================
Alien 5 was being pushed by Blomkamp and a lot of Fans, this movie idea seemed to be gathering a lot more interest and anticipation than Prometheus 2 that would explore Shaws Questions (she was disappointing for some) and so off to meet these Giant Humans and their creators for Answers, with a movie that again may not show the Xeno Origin, the Space Jockey or have many Minutes devoted to Xenomorphs.
ALIEN 5... would have brought back Ripley, Hicks and Newt and the Alien Queen, and thus more Eggs and Xenomorphs but it also was to touch upon different Xeno Strands, Engineer Technology and the Egg Morph.
This ^^^^ seemed to be a idea that was appealing to more Fans than Prometheus 2...
And so they had a U-Turn and Logan came in to re-write a movie that would be more Shoehorned and feature a Xenomorph....
As Ridley said... "they want Aliens, ill give them F$"%"% Aliens" This comment to me implies Ridley did want to explore the Engineers and Variants of their experiments but realized that Aliens would be what would bring the Fans back.

MemberDeaconMay-01-2017 4:13 PMThis brings us to Alien Covenant...
I feel they are taking a very ambiguous and open route to Alien, there could be enough in this Movie to give Fans a Alien Fix, with subtle hints of Engineers Culture that is for the most part gone 18 years prior to Alien. It seems to be pushing the Engineers to the side, and Shaw (things that got a lot of criticized) and bringing into it the Alien which is why some fans was disappointed with Prometheus but looking forwards to Alien Covenant.
However... when Ridley announced AC he said they are heading into the back door of Alien, it would eventually back into Alien.
I wondered if this meant that Alien Covenant was then actually Prometheus 3 and the next movie would be set prior but after Prometheus and the 3rd would be set prior to Prometheus.
With Ridley Scott not long ago saying Alien Awakening happens between Prometheus and Alien Covenant, it could appear my interpretation is maybe correct.
AS IT STANDS....
This movie will be a Fan Service, that will cover the Engineers a tiny bit just as much as Prometheus attempted to cover the Xenomorph a tiny bit (which it did, Black Goo, Mural, Fresco, Chest Busted Cryo-Pods).... ALIEN COVENANT will give us Eggs and Xenomorph that are slightly different, it will show David creates them and leave us to ponder that latter he will use the Covenant Crew and Synthetic Material to create the Classic Xenomorph..
It will give Fans a Xeno fix, it will leave them wondering why the Engineers create the Black Goo, hopefully get fans to want to see answers to the Engineers, which HAVING DAVID create the Xenomorph may get fans to be upset as they thought it was Ancient.... which only leaves the other Option as the Engineers or something connected THOUSANDS of years ago created. So Fans they would go and see the next movie Awakening hoping for some answers to the ALIEN Origin that would maybe show that DAVID did not Create but Re-create it.
I think this is where Alien Awakens comes in, it would answer some of those Questions about the Engineers, LV-223 what things David finds out after Prometheus that makes him want to do what he has set out to do in Alien Covenant and also what happens to Shaw.
I BELIEVE (well its what i would do)..
That the next movie covers the Engineers more, gives more clues to the Black Goo and Xenomorph and will Leave the Fans Wondering.....
So was it DAVID or the ENGINEERS (Ancient Event)....
This allows FOX and Ridley Scott to then Gauge the Reaction to Alien Covenant (David Creates it) more Alieny Flick and Alien Awakens (Engineers Agenda) which would be more like a Prometheus with more Xeno DNA....
And then it would allow them to then MAKE THE FINAL Alien Prequel movie connect to the Space Jockey depending how Fans React to the TWO possible outcomes that Alien Covenant and Alien Awakens will leave us with.
I think thus (and its what i would have done) we would be left with TWO connected movies, one that brings more Modern Human (Covenant crew) and Xenomorphs into it, the other less these but more Engineers. Then Fan Reactions will determine if
THE FINAL PREQUEL.....
Shows
a) Alien Covenant Crew, become the Eggs and David further evolves the Xenomorph to become Bio-Mechanical.. so we follow the Fate of the Covenant Crew.
b) The Xenomorph and Space Jockey are a Ancient event, and we see events between Prometheus and Alien Covenant with Flash Backs to show us Ancient Past.
If they go for B) then we could still see the Covenant Crew's Fate explored in a different Horror that would be like a Parallel events around the time of Alien... or prior... that does not conclude with the Space Jockey, but maybe shows us how the Company finds out about the Derelict

MemberFacehuggerMay-01-2017 4:20 PMI feel that its very likely for Covenant to tie into Alien. I'm guessing towards the end of the film we'll see some blueprints for the Nostromo lying around or maybe some scene where a Weyland-Yutani officer is giving Ash the Special Order.
What's the story, MUTHUR?

MemberDeaconMay-01-2017 6:20 PMI dont think AC will finish this way..
I think we have to remember there will be at least two more movies before things end up with Alien, and then we may get some insight into Special Order 937
I think AC will set up to make us think the next movie will be about the Covenant crew ==> LV-426 but it will be open.
I still think Alien Awakens will cover for the most part past events, and leave another Door to LV-426.
Then the 3rd movie will then evolve the Plot of AC and AA, and choose which will Shoehorn into Alien as far as the Derelict.
Least thats what i hope...

MemberOvomorphMay-01-2017 10:43 PMBig Dave your speculations as ever would seem to be bang on the money.
Leaving both movies open ended would be the most plausible method to resolving the prequels. It will be interesting to see what Sir Riddles does.

MemberChestbursterMay-02-2017 6:12 AM@sherris don't lose faith. "Awakening" either has already been made, or is being made, and that one will help answer your/our "Prometheus" questions and delve into that part of the Universe a bit more.
