Yep, there are tides.
When the crew first landed the area was covered in water. When they later returned the tide lowered down.The trailers didn't exactly show these scenes in order.

@Dark Nebula Why not to choose a constantly dry place to land? It seems there are many dry flat places on Planet 4 (for example, fields and other areas of shores)

Looks like the set was built on dry land and when they started shooting the tide has risen and Ridley was like "Well nevermind, we won't drown".
My assumption, nothing official.

I heard there were environmental restrictions there. If they moved more inland, they may have had to clear/level some land and that may have been a no no. I heard a similar story about the explosion regarding debris and water pollution etc...
