The new Covenant trailer  has definitely given us more insight to the film, such as giving us better looks at the Protomorph and Neomorph. But David,as well as Elizabeth Shaw, and there roles on "Paradise" remain a mystery. For starters, the photo above is labeled "David to the rescue",but who exactly is he "rescuing"?Where did the flare gun come from?We also have "David's workshop"with a body sprawled out across the table, but who does the body belong too? Some might say Shaw But I think this is unlikely,It's already been theorized that there may have been a separate crew that predates The Covenant, the body,as well as the flare gun likely belong to them, whoever they might be.And we also have the image of what appears to be an engineer city in ruins, with a hooded figure amidst it all, quite possibly David. If this is indeed David(and the evidence suggests it is)then how the hell did he cause that much destruction. We've all theorized that David is possibly responsible for the engineer extinction on "Paradise"but is he really capable of these levels of destruction?

The Juggernaut was carrying the black ooze, David probably released the ooze on the population.

While the black ooze was causing total havoc, the only way the engineers could stop it was to wipe everything out thus why you see all the bodies all over the place.

Oops on the last one.Yes Movie Fan,quite possibly, some one told that they believed that the engineer's were likely destroyed through infected water. While i thought it may be possible, these new images suggest something else entirely. There's also the possible leaks from the set to consider.

To be honest, dissemination through water could still be a possibility. For one it could explain the spores.Secondly, were the water to be infected,it would have the potential to cause mass hysteria.Imagine thousands of engineers all fighting and killing each other.

Yes, i can imagine that. :)

Speaking of the body on the table, I would say its 50% Shaw and 50% someone else based on this picture below:

Yes, very possible.  Especially if the population were located to one area, geographically.

It's harder to see that scenario over a whole world though.  We don't know yet the extent of life/habitats on Paradise yet . . .

I like the water idea as well - it could explain the fighting engineers/burnt corpses we have seen . . .

I just realized something...That design of the burst/cut ope, chest on that corpse/cadaver/dead dude is similar to the one on the new eggs. At first I thought it was one of the crew, but now I am convinced it is an Engineer (scale be damned!)

I really think David was experimenting with one of the Engineers that was possibly in one of the cryo-pod on the juggernaut he flew to Paradise.

Not sure what's the deal with the good Dr. Shaw, but chances are pretty good that she got screwed in this deal...

Dr. David Frankenstein looks hell bent on creating the perfect organism by all means necessary...

So my question is where have these engineers been this whole time? The ones on LV-223 had been dead for thousands of years right? And a lot of people think they were going to destroy life on Earth, so what stopped them? Why haven't they been seen? Why did they leave an entire planet abandoned, LV-223? If there were engineers there they would have seen and heard what was going on during the Prometheus mission. The set report says of a Pompeii like event that took place. An apocalyptic event? Some form of extinction plan to eradicate them? Genocide? The bodies may be stuck like that for thousands of years like Pompeii. I just don't think one person like David could wipe out an entire race. Why wouldn't they have just killed him? They sure as hell never would have trusted an android. I find it hard to believe he and possibly Shaw hid from them the whole time and created something to destroy the engineers.

Dr. Connors

My theory is those Engineers got zapped long before humans were thinking that Friday Night Fights at the ol' Roman Colosseum weren't in vogue anymore...

It's the only thing that fits...Are we to honestly believe that one individual droid could take out that many inhabitants that quickly to the point of they all died instantly where they stood...?

Would the engineers truly leave themselves that vulnerable to just one of their own Juggernauts with accompanying cargo...? Doesn't make total sense for any advanced race with half a engineer brain.

No that looks like advanced warfare to me...Some form of Nucleonic, Microwave, Thermal, or some other Hollywood made-up weapon that cooked these jokers. Maybe that Engineers were possibly at war with themselves, another race, or maybe even some Martians.

David just took advantage of the situation to use their temple to further his own goals....

Just my thought, anyways.

MemberChestbursterMar-02-2017 8:05 AM

@suwhited  That's what I think too, it's the only thing that makes sense to me as well. Since the ones that are dead on LV-223 were thousands of years ago, I think these ones have been too. Awesome stuff as usual man!

@Dr. Connors

Maybe the Engineers as a race have "Seen their better days..."

A theory I was trying to wrap my head around is that David recognizes the limitations of both humans and Engineers as creator races and therefore want's to imrove upon the whole lot.

I believe he was experimenting/dissecting/butchering one our more of the Engineers which were probably in the Cryo-pods on the Juggernaut that they flew into Paradise on.

Using the Black-goo as a baseline, David is trying to take one or more races(humans) past genetic potential into something greater (transcendence...?) The Xenomorph is viewed as perfect organism by Ash in the original Alien movie...

Could it be that David's ultimate goal is to create the ultimate race that will not suffering a downfall like the Engineers... Or maybe he is trying to transform humankind into something greater? (And get the glory out of it, of course...)

Dammitt! Too much pontification, so now my head is hurting...I think I'll go watch "Barney" to reflect on all this...

@suwhited   Hahahaha on that last bit. Yeah I hear ya man, the ideas and theories are flowing through everybody on here since the new trailer debut. I heard some people on here rumbling about how there is nothing being kept a secret now, they've let us know too much. I think I know even less than I did before, they've got me second guessing myself all the time. Everything I think I piece together something else comes up. I think they have done an extraordinary job promoting this movie, just wait till all the TV spots start coming out!

@ninXeno426  Sorry to post this here but I just read a set report from Collider.com, a lot of interesting stuff on there to say the least, and I am fairly new here and don't really start topics but wanted to let people know about it. If you wanna start a topic about it be my guest. I know there are gonna be other set reports and visits, this one I came across and you're gonna wanna read it for sure.

Dr. Curt Connors

MemberChestbursterMar-02-2017 9:40 AM

This will probably change people's opinions on Walter and David even more to say the least. Also reading it Demian Bichir is the leader of the military part of the crew, there is tons and tons of new information on there. It's titled something like Alien: Covenant 70 things we learned about the sequel or something like that.

MemberPraetorianMar-02-2017 1:07 PM

It's fine Connors.I'm intrigued by these set reports, the question is whether they are truthful or purposely misleading. The idea of a separate human race worshipping the engineers as gods is something i haven't considered yet. It's similar to our own history with the possibilities of alien races being worshipped as gods as seen in a lot of ancient cultures.

I've rummaged around the internet a bit looking for more info and you should be careful.  There is some compelling "spoiler" info out there.  Not on a site like Collider I wouldn't think but there is some stuff out there

David destroying the Engineers would be bad-ass but also a bit unbelievable. The Engineers don't have any defense against their own spaceships/black goo ?? They will be all obliterated because of David releases the goo? Nah. Don't buy it.

I think they wiped themselves out in a civil war thing, 2000 years ago, the same civil war that happened to the pile of the dead Engineers at LV-223. Two (or more) fractions of Engineers, boom, all dead.

Maybe even in a clash against another race, maybe the Engineers were not at the top spot at the cosmological hierarchy and there is another surprise for us.

Anyway, not David, according to me.

@Dr. Curt Connors - you probably know exactly what I'm talking about too.  I figure I'm going to be excited to see the movie either way really.  I think I have the bigger picture already worked out a bit.  The specifics will be fun to see unfold

@Captain America err Steve Rogers, sorry had to do it. I'm not too sure I know what you're talking about exactly and I think I have got some things figured out as well but there is this part of me that feels like I am completely gonna be wrong, haha. We will see for sure.

@Lizard - did I get that right? I had to look it up :)

Well if you don't know exactly what I'm referring to, good.  I'll leave it at that.  If you look under the wrong rock, you'll see everything....possibly. I believe I know just about everything at this point, but my lips will remain sealed.

After Shaw and David crash landed on the planet, David secretly contacted Wayland Yutani to update them on the status of the Prometheus expedition and the discovery of the black goo; he also requested supplies (mainly lab equipment) and a new body. He then killed Shaw or held her captive and experimented on her female anatomy (her infertile female eggs) with the black goo and eventually created the face hugger eggs. David discovers from archived data on the engineer ship that the engineers' black goo was originally designed to mutate life forms into hostile creatures which attack and infect other life forms with black goo; this is what happened to Fifield and the worms in Prometheus.

However, use of the black goo had some unintended consequences; instead of just destroying life, it sometimes created a new powerful highly adaptive species called the "morph" (alien with elongated skull). The morph is created from reproductive cells such as plant spores, human eggs/embryos, etc. that have been mutated by the black goo into a parasite (face hugger, trilobite, etc.) which can impregnate a host with a morph alien embryo. The morph gestates inside its host until mature enough to leave which results in a violent death for the host. Apparently, the engineers have encountered these morphs in the past when they used the black goo to eliminate life on planets. The engineers revered, respected, and feared this powerful alien species, which unlike other life forms created by the black goo, has the power to procreate, hence the reason for the mural depicting what looked like a xenomorph and face hugger in the room where the black goo was stored in at the engineer's installation on LV-223.

The engineers sought to learn how these morphs are created and discovered that face hugger eggs are created when the black goo mutates the eggs of humanoid creatures (such as humans) which the engineers are responsible for creating (see beginning of Prometheus). David discovered this knowledge from archived data stored on the engineer ship that he and Shaw used to escape from LV-223 and then used that information to experiment on Shaw's eggs and create face hugger eggs. After creating the eggs, he then communicated with Weyland Yutani again, requesting additional human subjects (mainly women) to experiment on. So, Weyland Yutani sends the Covenant and its human crew, which consists of male/female couples, to his location. When the Covenant crew arrive at David's location, they immediately come into contact with mutated spores that turn some of them into a neomorph alien which is a morph created from human and plant DNA. Apparently, David had been experimenting on the local ecosystem by contaminating it with the black goo. David eventually reveals himself to the crew and helps them destroy the neomorphs.

After earning the crew's trust, David convinces some of the crew to follow him to the engineer ship where he keeps the face hugger eggs. The captain is attacked by a face hugger which leads to the creation of the protomorph alien which is created from only human DNA; the protomorph is far more formidable than the neomorphs, but not as powerful as the classic xenomorph from the films. While the crew is dealing with the new protomorph alien, David continues to experiment and lures the Covenant's android, Walter to another face hugger egg. A face hugger impregnates Walter with an alien which leads to the creation of the classic biomechanical xenomorph (queen) which is the most powerful form of the species created to date. The xenomorph alien is created from synthetic android DNA and human DNA (from Shaw). The queen alien begins laying new face hugger eggs which delights David, as he is able to create a new life form IN HIS IMAGE capable of procreation. The crew eventually dispatches the protomorph alien and then attempt to flee the planet. However, the engineers return and kill David, the xenomorphs, and all of the remaining Covenant crew. They then destroy the ecosystem David created and take all of the xenomorph eggs with them. However, one of the eggs hatches and attacks the engineer pilot (space jockey) who is eventually killed by a chestburster which causes the ship (derelict) to crash land on LV-426 where Ripley and the crew of the Nostromo eventually discover it. Before dying, the engineers on the ship activate a beacon warning other engineers to stay away, as the powerful xenomorph species on the ship is much too dangerous to come into contact with. It is revealed in the end that not all of David's ecosystem and all of the xenomorph eggs had been destroyed, and that is where Alien 5 will take place, as Weyland Yutani has set up their own bio weapons research facility on the planet in order to "harvest" the xenomorph eggs and experiment on them in order to create even more terrifying creations.

@SteveRogers1973 Yessssss, you did get it right! Also that yes is an example of how he drags his words that end with s in the comics. And really? I am intrigued and part of me wants to know but I'm not gonna do it. I'm gonna avoid as many spoilers as I can.
