In 1979 Sir Ridders didn't have a 'scooby doo' that he would have to link up anything to his original masterpiece.
However he has quoted that he will link it up over 'x' amount of films
I already feel my number one choice won't happen :
1. Derelict ( Bones / organic looking ) Space Jockey is a different race from the Engineers ( who the Engineers try to emulate?)The pilot never got to the destination and was chest bursted by one of the cargo thousands of years ago, perhaps during a war against the Engineers or another race?
Prometheus despite its flaws, was an essential platform to spring off, however do you feel Prometheus has already tainted the mystery of the Jockey?
Which link up would make you feel most satisfied and not damage your awe and mystery of the original Jockey / Derelict ,in my eyes, the best choice can't be used anymore.

For me the logical link up would be for the bursted Jockey / Derelict still to be thousands of years old and we see Pilot's death in a perfectly executed flashback during the new films, along with a dam good back story.
Yes Approx 2000 years ago Engineers had eggs / huggers on the mural in the head room in Prom and it certainly looks like a Queen on the mural too, but ultimately this would produce an organic type Xeno, similar to the fleshy Deacon....?

I feel the final link up will be LV426's cargo of eggs ( xx121 type ) lining up with what the company new, admired and we're after at any cost.
Ash's quote - Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility....
Ash didn't gain this from just inspecting the removed hugger, he knew the full capability of this strand of Xeno from what the company knew. David / Walter emulated and perfected this strand of Xeno......

I feel as if the Engineers indeed tainted the mystery of the giant Space Jockey.

Whereas the original Jockey had a different design and looked more like a fossilised creature, the Engineer turned out to be a big nosed 10 foot albino in a Marvel comics superhero space suit with goggles. Without the suit it was essentially a xeno without the elongated head. How original.

It was an interesting idea to build upon the Jockey but my main gripe was the suit thing.

Your flashback idea is good I could definitely see the same or a similar scenario as long as it's a brief scene.

I see the Jockey as the last of his kind, an ancient race now extinct with no connections to the Engineers in Prometheus, supported by the fact of the vast timeline difference and how different they look from each other.

We'll see how AC unfolds, it could change my mind on things.

@Neomorph, I'm with you on your thoughts....

Also the picture I posted certainly looks like David's egg garden in AC....

The problem i have with the eggs being cargo is very simple.

Urns can be cargo i can buy that...engineers grab them and put them on whatever they gonna toss them...and the liquid does its thing.

unless we learn they manage to grab eggs and manipulate them freely we have this following :

How would they toss the eggs..how would they grab them if they detect life form..open..and facehug the shit out of the being.

For me ridley scott is crazy regarding that concept of eggs being cargo...its not functional regarding what we been educated about them and how they work..would be much easier to kidnap humans..impregnate them and leave them in earth for the bursting process to take place..or simply laying a protoqueen in earth and boom job done.many ways.

I only buy the theory the space jockey was impregnated with something witouth knowing or by surprise and due to consequent amnesia of face hugging went to the ship..start its own flight...got chestbursted by a ultramorph queen in juvenile form..wich made the hole on the derelict...and layed the eggs there upon adult form.

And that would tell how the hell we have biomech xeno eggs and classic facehuggers that david is suppose to create by rumour etc fused with time travel theory of the space jockey race..jackpot of 2000 years old derelict explained.

If that is indeed cargo...and if the biomech xeno is the creature invented by spacejockey they have to explain a lottt...and i doubt it since the mural shows a deacon and not a classic xeno..that is not biomechanical..so the biomech xeno and biomech eggs cant be a ascient event.

Yes I too was disappointed that the enigmatic 'space jockey' was diminished to nothing but a glorified jumpsuit. I was even more devastated to learn the suit's intended occupant is as anthropomorphic as you can possibly get. It's just a mannequin!

Anyway, my perfect link into Alien would have been, in short, as follows:

* A Weyland plc. ship of discovery, with a handful of crew crash lands on a mysterious world. We don't know what year it is, what their mission is and how they got so far away from the solar system.

* Malevolent beings deliberately forced them there to experiment on and send back as cocoons to decimate Earth ready for them to colonize. The humans send a distress call.

* Another group of beings (Space Jocks) who are slaves champion the humans and rebels. In the melee, last remaining human fights off the bad aliens, so that last remaining good alien can destroy the weapons.

* But unfortunately, Jock realises he is infected and crashes, with a xenomorph bursting through as per usual. The humans uncommonly die.

I'm with you GD-T-I-H. Parking the '2000' years ago reference in Prometheus (based on carbon dating, and with an undoubted biblical reference), the age of the Derelict in Alien was pure speculation.

Time travel is a lazy explanation, so I think it's entirely conceivable that the Derelict is carrying David's cargo and even a couple of years on LV-426, exposed to the elements, would make the Derelict appear older than it probably was (remembering that humans, as far as the Nostromo crew were concerned, had never come across any such thing....ever).

Unfortunately, for us all, the reality is that, as much as we would like it to, concepts, timelines and details don't entirely link up between films. With that in mind, I'm just ridiculously excited about another movie about a universe I absolutely love, that will hopefully include aliens (in whatever form) and Engineers (of whatever variety), and more about David, and continue to expand the possibilities of where this franchise can go (hopefully several more films exploring a range of things connected (but not dependent) on each other.

This is great guys, I just wanted to tap into opinions of those with more experience on the subject than me.
There are many doors Ridders can go down, I just hope it's done in a believable way.....

Tiago - I'm with you on the goo being ok to be dropped, but eggs would need to be carefully placed thing, perhaps only synthetics could undertake this without disaster!?

Stan - I'm getting a feeling you were a tad disappointed with Prometheus!?

MuzzleNZ - Your Jonesy response on the last thread was great and I concur with your last para on this, just needs to be done well and I guess my original Alien expectations were just too high

I feel whatever David appears to have grown / tampered with on the AC planet, could possibly be replicated on David's future travels, possibly to LV426.

I'm bringing this one back to life -
With the China and Japanese markets still to come, plus the Blu Ray / DVD after sales , AC in theory should make a 100 million profit.

So how do we want it to end?
As predicted by some and slated by others,it's Davids story now.
With what has gone down in AC, how will the franchise link up to the Jockey/ Derelict and strand of eggs on LV-426?

David turns out to be Shaw in disguise.  The engineers are actually all fester clones from the Adams family. And the black goo is LSD nothing actually happened and they all wake up... it was all a dream and the alien universe was not ruined aaah. :D

"It's almost as if they are making it up as they go along" :D

You are very correct Goddamn Tropics in here. David 8 proved it with his access code and seamless communication with Mother. Great topic, again.

@djam - Lol and thanks @Ing, I always enjoy reading your detailed posts

I'm the biggest old romantic of the awe surrounding an ancient Jockey and eggs, however I think this goose is cooked and we've got to embrace any new direction, even with gritted teeth!

Is it really that bad that David created and placed the eggs / huggers in the silos under the Derelict?

I've no problem with the Covenant becoming the new house of horrors in space and most of it's cargo becoming LV426's eggs, with Dani and T and a handful of Colonists somehow trying to thwart David and his evil plans...

However they handle the Jockey itself, Higer race, Engineer, AI or a Human , I just hope that it's done well

One thing for sure the company / AI will play and integral part of the franchise going forward, as it always has.

Great discussion guys! Lets assume there will be just one more film because of the box office fall.

It is very difficult to link up to the events on LV426. But we do have a time gap of 18 years.

Probably David will die. Every story has a beginning and an end. Just how? Maybe by a higher force. I still wonder who created the engineers... And we probably will see some of the colonists will wake up from hypersleep. Thats why it will be called Awakening.
