the character is, understandably, one of those characters who can be easily forgotten from Prometheus. seemingly dull with no interesting plot. though given thought she could be one of the most significant, 'religious' characters in the whole film. we have weyland and shaw who r believers in the whole god concept (I believe Holloway is just searching, the agnostic) and Vickers the non-believer. towards the end of the movie she has now become the 'I see the light' converted. added into her story of the converted is that for her, it is too late. a corrupted believer (weyland) dies, the converted (Vickers) dies and the true believer (shaw) lives. I am in no way religious or anti, but im sure there is something somewhere in some book that references these forms, though together or individually is for someone else to know and inform

Stan Winston (deceased)

For me Vickers is nothing but the result of a nervous studio deciding they are not confident in the film and want a pretty star to bring in customers.

If you cut her out of the film, the plot loses absolutely zilch (in fact, you can say the same for several characters).

That said, I think I get what you are saying. That Vickers is the proxy for the audience: in other words, we are skeptical about them finding 'God', but then we are converted as Vickers is.

Vickers was in Spaihts early drafts, so it's not really the studio inserting someone.  And Charlie might've lived if she wasn't in the film, so it's not really "zilch".

I don't really see her as 'converted' but Shaw being the survivor and the only 'true believer' is an interesting take.

Vickers was a waste of acting talent, was she an android? I think her wooden acting give her an appearance of an android for sure.

She died like an ant being stepped on (symbolism!? Nah just kidding) before anything interesting about her could be revealed, if it's even possible.

One of many loose ends that simply cannot be answered in AC unless we get some forced "engineered" flashbacks.

Vickers is very fascinating for me.

Lots of scenes conveys that vickers could be a android indeed or at least weyland cloned his daughter that died in a tragic accident or smth.

Her death was i dont really know if she was smashed or if she survived and could add a extra plot device for lv 223 return on a sequel.

Why would they make vickers intriguing, strange and implying the not human aspect on her in some scenes..just to kill her off like that in the end?

I dont really know but she knows a lot from david and weyland and shes a vessel of super important imformation that could be handy for a lv 223 possible return.

If shes indeed dead...then ye defently one of the letdowns in script of prometheus for me.

I've never been able to fathom why some people think Vickers is a robot.

Jan-14-2017 1:03 PM

Some think she could be an android the way she handled David with no problem.

She was an interesting character but over all she just kind of missed the mark some how. I can;t put my finger on it.

Handled David after he spoke to Weyland?  Ripley handled Ash in a similar manner.

Jan-14-2017 2:40 PM

Not only that.

The way she says "father"

The way she handles david and how david speaks to her

The way shes cold towards others

In muthur says she died in 2049

But does she actually possess any of the elements that make up an android?  White blood? quick reflexes?  Why would she waste precious seconds when evacuating Prometheus putting on a suit she didn't need?

Any human can be "cold". She wasn't cold towards Janek.

Vickers is not literaly a robot, but she feels like one to others because circumstances have led her to aim for perfection, efficiency and isolation. David, meanwhile, is literaly a robot but was created to blend in and appear human. They are opposites that way, and Vickers resents him because her father would rather create an illusion of his idea of a perfect son rather than accept her and her accomplishments.

While Shaw is intended to be a different character from Ripley, Vickers feels like she could have been the Ripley of another movie but instead decided to go with the Prometheus mission for petty reasons when she could have created her own destiny.

Jan-14-2017 4:45 PM

Yep exactly. I just didnt understood the purpose of conveying the idea she was one in prometheus

I dont disregard however her being a clone of weyland daughter that died. The muthur statment of her death is intriguing.

I just think that she came off as a corporate bitch but wasn’t very interesting. I never cared about her daddy issues. They could have kept the fact that she would have inherited her dad’s company but changed her character but still making her greedy.

Vickers is spoiled and superficial maybe because she can’t get the love from her father that she wants? Peter Weyland sees David as the son who is created in his image and the one who should have taken over the company? Vickers is one of the characters in the story who doesn’t understand the point of her creation?

Jan-15-2017 8:59 AM

She didn't seem spoiled to me at all, in fact her introduction alone, in wich she's doing push-ups as soon as she wakes up from hypersleep, illustrates that she's become used to working hard and on her own to get things done.

She has some understandable issues with her father but these are direct and literal; other characters, in contrast, are hoping to find meaning and stuff by meeting their "creators" wich they see as father figures (Shaw, Holloway, David and Mr. Weyland) wich comes off as mumbo jumbo to her.

Vickers was very significant. Without her, the life pod would not have been launched. The squid would not have impregnated the engineer, etc etc etc....

Jan-15-2017 5:27 PM

I think she could have been used better....

As far as where people get was she a Robot.... Ridley teased about maybe more than One Robot.... its likely Ridley was teasing a Red Herring as he never 100% said there was or was not... so he was setting up fans to wonder if Vickers was.

There was scenes in the movie, that gave us the impression she was not normal... like when she did Press Ups after coming out of Cryo Sleep, compared to how the others had suffered from Cryo-Sleep.... like Shaw... but then other people was not effected too..  so it was not intended to show her as a Android but it could lead some fans to speculate.

Then the Scene she stood like a Robot in the trailers and managed to throw David up against the wall.... again fans fail to realize that without resistance  we have to consider how hard would it be for a obviously very Fit and Strong Human Female (Vickers) to push a unresistant 189lb Robot would be the same as doing it to a 189lb Human.

We had the  Janek to Vickers "are you a Robot"  scene...

And so all in all, there is way more proof she was not a Robot, than any clues to suggest she was one.  When you stack up the potential clues that could hint... could she be a Robot? then consider possible explanations for them being human as i did a few examples above.

And then look at clues that show her to appear Human and then try and see if these could be Robot Actions or clues... they clearly then show she is indeed NOT a ROBOT

Another way to look at that tease by Ridley....

Is he was hinting at maybe..... but maybe when he made this comment, he already had the idea of where they are taking the Engineers for a sequel.... and purpose of removing the Elders Scene and Tone town Engineer Scenes that portrayed him as a Bio-logical Terminator....

Then maybe the other Android... tease/Red Herring could refer to the Engineers.... maybe not as in them being Synthetic at all..

But as far as the connection to their creation/purpose as far as in context of who created the Engineers... is similar to the reasons for creation of David 8

But then again maybe nothing at all was meant by that passing comment Ridley made.

Indeed it was her Characters Actions and purpose for being on the ship that led to those Plot Devices...
