in Prometheus, before the crew wake, david is at a terminal which says 'no response', or something to that effect. what did he send and to whom? I didn't know till recently as I havnt seen the blu ray extras, that weyland knows about the lv426 signal and thus had told david. is he looking for a response from lv426? and if so was he to redirect Prometheus if he got a response? I believe weyland states lv426 has bigger rewards but with higher risk so could lv426 be the ultimate prize but theyr not taking the risk unless contact is made?
Hmmm, I didn't know about this - is this canon that Weyland knew about LV426 prior to leaving for LV223. If so it explains a lot in the films ...
according to posts iv read, I think its in weylands files or something of that tone, he says he knows of the signal on lv426 and only david be given this information, as he is awake while the crew sleeps, it would be plausible weyland has told him to try and make contact with lv426 and if contact is made, make a decision on if he should alter the course of the Prometheus or not. just a theory though. I believe it is to be considered canon
We can watch four videos on the Extras section of the Prometheus Blu-Ray. Every video has a log from Peter Weyland. The Quiet Eye: Elizabeth Shaw video which was one of the viral videos has an interesting part of its log that i totaly forgot but i watched the movie today and i watched those extras too. So, Peter Weyland wrote this on 01-14-2090 before the Prometheus had started her suicide mission.
"As fate would have it, Shaw and Holloway's interest in Zeta 2 Reticuli has proven to be mutually beneficial. While the good doctors rely on ancient carvings and primitive cave paintings, my science division's own long range scans have recently detected a faint, almost imperceptible signal emanating from of the lesser moons in that system. And contrary to the findings of shaw and Holloway, which target LV-223 as our primary site of interest, our findings suggest the point of origin could actually be the moon LV-426.
Per standard procedure, we will embed a David 8 unit with the crew. And he will programmed with multiple contingency plans to address and exploit whatever assets we secure on 223. But only David will know about 426 and will ensure that the rest of the crew - including Meredith - learn nothing about the transmission we've recently discovered until the time is right."
its a topic farther down called the peter weyland files
That is interesting, thanks (i don't have DVD - just my BlinkBox purchase :)
I've been discussing LV223/LV426 and how much the Co. knew on a couple of other threads. That only David and PW knew of LV426 at this time is quite revealing.
It leads me to think that David or events following whatever comes next (AC etc) lead elements of WY to learn about the Xeno and LV426 which may then set up the link to ALIEN.
Of course that could get changed in the films but it would be pretty silly and a waste of a lot of peoples time and effort to just dismiss it, surely? Still that would be RS's perogative I suppose
The answer to the original question: David is sending information in various forms to LV-223 hoping someone is there to hear and respond.
According to the Weyland Files you mentioned the message from 426 has been decoded. It's been implied that there was a brief description of the creature in that warning.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!
The message David is sending is nothing to do with LV-426. David, Shaw and Charlie discuss the lack of response after waking up.
I didnt know that either.All i have is the dvd.That's what i get for being cheap.Thankyou ali81.
Nothing the God of biomechanics wouldn't let you in heaven for
Indeed as Myrddin365 mentions... its most likely that they was trying to see if they could detect any responses from LV-223 and LV-426 (maybe) so as to see if there is anyone left at home...
I would like to think maybe David would do the same with Paradise... but then it depends how much he knows about them and if he suspects they may be Hostile.. i am sure David would want to go in all Stealthy....
Sorry for the last part being off Topic

Hmm. Call me old-fashioned but I like to think if something is not in a motion picture theatrical (or subsequent director's) cut, then it ain't canon.
Besides, it seems preposterous for the guy who owns the ship, recruited everyone aboard, and bankrolled the entire mission, to then be tiptoeing around with information about LV-426! (Don't get me started on why on Earth he is hidden aboard himself)
If the real interest is LV-426 then he has the authority to de-prioritize LV-223. In fact, why isn't the ship just manned with 20 David units? Nothing makes sense.
