I really liked the first Alien. It was different from the aliens we were seeing in movies or shows or books (or whatever else) as it was deadly, scary...effective. The only ones I didn't like, actually, were the Runners and the Queen.
I really hope Alien 5 will feel more like the first movie. It would make the year it comes out the best year ever for movies. ;)

Welcome to the forums! I also agree, I'm hoping Blomkamp takes the Alien back to its roots, Cameron's film was fun and action-packed, but that style for the Alien has been done to death. We need a genuinely scary Alien movie again.

Here's some designs that I like that give me the visual feeling of Gigers Alien design:

v1. I was elated when I saw them go with it for Alien Isolation. They really worked hard to please us fans with that one. Giger's original was the first realistic looking movie monster I'd ever seen. It traumatized me as a kid and made me get a bio degree. :)

HR Gigers Concept was the best version.... and they did a Good job of putting it to screen in Alien but we have to remember we did not see it fully in clear shot in Alien because on close inspection the costume had its flaws....
But with Modern Technology as far as real Prop and Costume Design i think they could do the Classic Xenomorph look justice...
Everyone has a Beef with the Aliens and AVP versions, but they are better done than the Alien 1979 costume, people wont like to admit that however.... The 1979 look however did have a more sleek style more elegant to it as far as the idea and concept... but there was not a massive change apart from the Aliens and AVP Xeno where darker in colour, rather than a grey somewhat metalic look of the Classic.
The biggest difference that may disapoint is the head carapace, but they did try the Original style for Aliens, they just found it was not as hard wearing for the number of Xenos they had to be used and the nature of the scenes.... and so the Classic Style was too fragile... and thats why they went for the different style.

Nostromo9468: Thanks, interesting topic. My favorite is Giger's alien, it showed some intelligence in Alien (1979) but then it seemed to turn into some bug which you could kill almost without any problem and that isn't as interesting.

This is something that Divides Fans as far as the Xenomorph Goes..... some regard the Original as being something Special... clever and near unstopable...
But its something thats a bit hard to judge.... not if we look at a few points.
Small Group Space Truckers VS Larger Group Trained Marines.
No Weapons VS Best Weapons that Mankind had availble.
Closed Enviroment that suited the Organism VS More Open Enviroment.
The Xenomorph could be Hurt... they managed to cut the Face Hugger in Alien, and it produced Acid Blood.... the crew could not risk hurting the Organism for risk of wounding it could lead to more Acid Blood and Compremising the Ship.
We can never say how hard the Xeno would have been to kill in Alien because it was never tested as far as finding a open Space it could not hide in, and then being targeted by Weapons Fire from Traineed Firearms experts. But i will add the Xenos did seem to die a bit to easy in Aliens but i am sure a Shot Gun at Short Range would cause serious damage to the Xeno... Prometheus i felt tried to go back to making the Monsters more tough, with Fifield in which i felt he was made to be too tough.. But the Hamerpedes where easy to wound.
In Alien the crew were not trained or prepared to deal with the situation and the Nostramo was a confined space and dark and it suited a Alien Creature that could movie fast, climb walls and was dark and elegant that it could hide away.
A lot of people have the Xeno in Aliens as being Dumb.... well in Alien all the creature did was survive and hunt down a unarmed and unarmed crew on a ship that served as enviroment that suited a stealthy hunter. But all this Creature did was hunt the crew down one by one. It did show signs of Inteligence however...
But so did the Xeno in Aliens.. they cut the power, they avoided the sentry guns, baracades by using the gaps in the ceilings.. and so i think they outsmarted the Marines more than the Xeno outsmarted Ripley and Co in Alien.
We also have to look at the Tactics.... If we take a Lone Special Forces Op behind enemy lines, they would be more cautious and keep to the shadows.....
As opposed to being part of a Marine Platoon where you would be more willing to take risks and be less stealthy.
If we had a Zombie Outbreak.... and you was stuck in a department store, the only weapons was baseball bats, large knifes, chainsaws etc.... If there was just 3 of you and 30 Zombies, you would be more stealthy and cautious and have to pick them off one by one and use the element of suprise and hide away to take care of them....
Now if there was a group of 30 of you and say 100 Zombies you would be less cautious, and would attack in groups with less fear....
I think this is how we need to look at the different aproach of the Xeno in Alien and Aliens... We also need to consider the purpose....
Alien we just saw a creature that spawned from a Egg, then via 3 Stages of Life Cycle that then went around killing the Crew..... Aliens we was shown a Hive Mentality, where the greater good of the Hive was important and these Creatures had to preserve and protect the Hive.... they went out and captured Human Hosts to Procreate its own kind.
Now the Alien DC showed a different take with the Xeno, which showed it did not quite mindlessly kill but it used two of the Crew to Procreate its own species.... we have to ask why not do the same with Parker and Lambert.... but i have a theory on why not.. that i have covered before and i may make a Topic to discus the Xenomorph Organism in full detail with only one missing peice of the Puzzle and that is being how they came to be... This is a puzzle we have clues but no clear answer...... But this is the same with Mankind... we dont have No 100% FACT way that says how Mankind came to be...
I will add my theory explains why the Xeno did not need no other Hosts... and that is that it only need Two as the result would lead to a Queen... and it explains why the Xenos are different and have different roles.... the Alien one was simply to go and create a Queen.

I agree that it was the original depiction except for this part
Look upon my works, you mighty, and despair

I think the "crab-football-crawl" could've worked if it wasn't deleted. At least they were avoiding the obvious quadrupedal stance with tail wagging.
The Alien was a juvenile which the crawl sort of reminds us. But then to see all innocence die away as it calculatingly and sadistically takes apart everyone invokes sheer terror.

Giger's original Alien was, is, and will always be the best and ONLY true "Alien". Fact. Not an opinion.

quite often the original can never be equalled and to me this is the case. the original xeno is by far the best. even though its a man in a suit when we see the whole thing, it still acts and moves convincingly alien. true masterpiece

H.R. Giger's original design for "Alien"...nuff said.
DEATH COMES ON GOLDEN WINGS!
ALL HAIL KING GHIDORAH!

I feel a lot of you guys are factoring your own feelings for the movies these xenos are in when trying to determine which design of Xeno is best. Never mind what was going on in the movie, purely visual, which design LOOKS best?
Forgetting the terrible effects and cgi, the Alien 3 alien is pretty sweet judging off the NECA toys. After that, the resurrection xenos were cool too. I hate the ridged head Cameron did. Also think avp xenos were sweet too. Talking just visually here, the only film I care for out of the 3 I like their xenos from is Alien 3 assembly cut. The transparent head from BigChap was really cool as well

Acurate portrayal included TYPHON, slaughtering them, well before his mother met her husband and had their son.

This is a different kind of alien. It is much more evolved than the previous beasts. It is not an animal anymore...

I don't like it. Too messed up and deformed. Giger's alien, by contrast, is elegantly horrific. Very hard to improve on.

You do not like it. It is my favorite. You said it is messed up and deformed, I see it superior and evolved. This alien portrayal is elegantly mighty. An improvement on Giger's alien.
It is a spaceman not a beast...

Each to their own. Arms like cotton earbuds aren’t my idea of scary / evolved / superior.

@Hox A Xenomorph should teach you a lesson.
