COUNTDOWN TO COVENANT MISSION LAUNCH:

Walter 2.0 is on the way! More Alien: Covenant viral material inbound!

Did you pre-order your own Walter model yet? You best hurry, because soon Weyland-Yutani will be unveiling Walter 2.0! Today we have an exciting look behind the scenes of the Meet Walter Alien: Covenant viral video, along with some concept artwork, interviews from the team behind the campaign and of course, news of a second phase within the Walter marketing campaign!

First up, TheDrum.com published a fantastic article outlining the "making of" breakdown for the Meet Walter viral video, explaining the process by which the concept initially came about and how that concept turned into a complete viral campaign.

Directed by Luke Scott, the Meet Walter video was a collaborative effort between the creative team at 3AM, AMD and 20th Century Fox. Together with the stellar performance by Michael Fassbender, they managed to bring Walter to life, or should I say, "online".

The Meet Walter film and marketing push is a platform to create conversations about whether the technology could exist and how mankind will deal with the potential of an android being a personal assistant.

“From the movie-going perspective, conversations are always a big goal of ours, but also getting people to emotionally connect to these characters before you go into the theater and see the film. Introducing this character in a very unexpected, non-traditional way and having people hopefully connect and go, ‘Wow, that was really, cool’,” says Chris Eyerman (Creative Director at 3AM)

The piece concludes by teasing a phase 2 in the Meet Walter campaign and makes reference to a Walter 2.0:

The crew promises that there will be a Walter 2.0, a second phase of the campaign for those who signed up through email, leading up to the launch of the movie on May 19. A teaser of Alien: Covenant was shown to crowds in a screening of the first Alien at SXSW.

In addition to the behind the scenes look at Meet Walter, check out some of the remarkable concept artwork that was created for this campaign by artist Maciej Kuciara:

Oh my what do we have here. I know we are seeing these videos maybe as a rough estimate of what should be the final version.

I enjoyed the synthesis of seeing Walter’s 3D printed or grown hollowed out bone structure. The nano scaffolding that accepts the AMD cpu is a bit more refined.

The Weyland Yutani production employees need a different treatment. None of the acting threw me off or was not what I was expecting. I would have liked to see other versions of Walters attending to all these functions.

No twisty old analog valves. I would have gone with nano-mech wires that move on their own. I would imagine that a type of micro logic is processed by them through light. These wires have enough components to interface with Walter’s outer skeleton and then deliver all the opaque white fluids.

The analog pipe on the ceiling is a no no, The old school surgical table has no place there either. And the cheap plastic masks and uniforms are completely wrong. The material science has changed I imagine there are many of these Walters attending to holograms as in Prometheus and looking at all the molecular production for quality control.

If it is any consolation we know what happens when David has interaction with humans in Prometheus. He is on the same mission as Ash. To intercept, capture, and study the Xeno. However, when these directives involve the trusted relations of these crews it becomes clear what is important to Weyland Industries.

So here we are with Walter.  Is this version of Walter without the same programing? I guess we will see in Alien-Covenant.

It will be interesting to see whats revealed next..

But to me i find it interesting that potentially now we have seen this Viral and Trailers with Walter where the clothing matches the David/Walter in the Egg Cave/Room where Crudup gets Face Hugged.

This is thus either Walter, or David swaps Clothes or more than that with Walter

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS -- and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction.
